About

“Cotton Candy, now that’s brilliant!” That’s what Sarah, an attendee at DevLearn, said as she spotted our Cotton Candy machine and maker, Huy Nguyen. The next minute, Sarah was trying her hand at making the biggest and best-looking cotton candy to eventually win our Cotton Candy Challenge. Because the question of why we brought a cotton candy machine came up frequently, we decided to explain it further in this article.

Take a look at our approach to DevLearn and how it was smart, simple, and scalable.

Smart Solutions Mean Taking the Not-so-Obvious

Our success at the DevLearn event, driven by our cotton candy theme, wasn’t by chance but the result of careful planning. When choosing the right marketing prop for the event, we wanted to select something that matched our brand identity, both in personality (professional and fun) and in colors (pink and blue). We also had to keep in mind our audience, who would hail from content development, which is usually fun and quirky. The smart and not-so-obvious answer? A cotton candy theme.

Instead of distributing only flyers (as others would), we wanted our attendees to have a memorable experience. Cotton candy evokes childhood memories and feelings, so we wanted to create more than just a good conversation starter. We wanted to leave a lasting impression on our attendees by inviting them to create their own experience at our booth. Bringing a cotton candy machine to the booth was a no-brainer!

Simple Solutions Result in Being Delighted Unexpectedly!

We did not expect that our simple cotton candy machine would be a hit. Some of our attendees returned multiple times to make candy for their family and friends. Others brought their friends to try their hand at crafting these fluffy clouds of deliciousness. The network effect was on full display!

I will say that a few attendees only wanted cotton candy and didn’t leave their contact details, but we’ll get them next year. Regardless, we distinguished ourselves from other translation companies at DevLearn by applying our Local IQ™ framework to amplify our brand through cotton candy.

Scaling at DevLearn Requires a Deep Understanding of Your Target Audience

When you’re attending an event like DevLearn, you must consider your target audience, your competitors’ strategies, and how to make your content more memorable. It’s no different than when you’re creating new e-learning content for a new market or localizing content for employees who speak different languages. You’ll need to account for language, design, technology, your target audience, accessibility, and even legal compliance of your learners to succeed.

Common Sense is Attending DevLearn Again 🙂

By the end of DevLearn, we received compliments from our neighbors and attendees about our booth design and our use of cotton candy. Additionally, we realized that Local IQ™ is second to none. It’s the world’s first and only framework for e-learning content that delivers better learning outcomes across an organization!

We’re grateful for all the support and positive feedback and cannot wait to meet everyone again next year. We promise to be back with more cotton candy! Or perhaps something even better!
